New Hybrid Gadgets Have Advantages, Disadvantages

Herald-Dispatch looks at different music playing phones on the market, including the much-maligned Motorola Rokr, and whether they will eventually replace digital music players such as the iPod.

David Chamberlain at In-Stat said, "You bring your cell phone with you everywhere, but you may forget your iPod at home. You also wouldn't use your cell phone to take high-quality pictures but it's nice to have something with you so you can snap and go. Similarly, phones like the ROKR are a nice fill-in, a supplement rather than a replacement."

Michael Gartenberg at JupiterResearch added, "We don't see music cell phones replacing a portable music player; only when there's no trade-off or compromises will consumers choose an all-in-one device."
