Sony Succeeding with UMD....Movies?

Newsday.com writes about the surprising success of Universal Media Disc (UMD) movies for the Sony PSP. Sadly enough the number of films available far outstrip the number of games.

Michael Cai at Parks Associates said, "It has definitely exceeded my expectations. Apparently, gamers have enough disposable income to buy movies for the PSP."

There were a lot of skeptics about the market for UMD content with many questioning the cost compared to DVDs and whether consumers would want to buy something that can only be played back on a PSP. So far Sony has proven skeptics wrong, but is it because there is a genuine market or due to the fact there are so few compelling games available?
