New Palms hit the Market - Both High and Low End

Palm has launched two new PDAs, the entry level $99 Palm Z22 and the Wi-Fi enabled $299 Palm TX. Michael Gartenberg at JupiterResearch posts about the differences and feels both will satisfy the needs of users at the two price points. He concludes:

While the buzz may be around the Windows Mobile Treo, Palm showed there's still life in Palm OS but it will be interesting to see where the future of that platform goes post these devices.
Over at Macworld UK Todd Kort at Gartner echoed similar sentiments when he said, "This will be [Palm's] most credible WiFi product to date. But it's kind of late in the game when you've got an OS that is obviously not going to be upgraded." With the PalmOS' future up in the air, Kort advised "PDA users looking to spend $299 might prefer to buy a product with an OS that will evolve over time."

On the otherhand, Kort thought the the Palm Z22 stood "a good chance of attracting people who have never used a PDA with the Z22." He opined, "They are trying to remove the intimidation factor that people associate with a PDA. It's something that is appropriate for students who don't need to connect to WiFi."
