Flash Memory Seen As Next Big Tech Thing

The Nashville City Paper reports that flash memory is driving the consumer electronics and mobile devices markets.

Mark DeVoss at iSuppli said, “NAND [flash] is the next gold rush in the industry. We expect it to post revenue growth of 18 percent a year for the rest of the decade,” which equates to $10.9 billion in 2007 alone.

DeVoss cited the benefits of using flash memory for electronic devices: "it is small, uses little power and has no moving parts." It is also coming down in price, allowing it to replace traditional memory chips and storage in electronics and mobile devices.
