Sponsored Study Reveals Consumer Want to Print Camera Phone Pictures

Fuji Photo Film issued a press release based on findings from a camera phone behavior study it sponsored by NPD Group that reveals 44.6 percent of 400 U.S. camera phone owners wished they could have printed some photos taken by their handset.

Neil Strother at NPD is quoted saying, "Clearly, the camera phone market continues to enjoy a healthy boom. Our data show that last year camera phones had penetrated 7 percent of the U.S. market, and now that number is close to 22 percent - a dramatic year-over-year increase of nearly 200 percent. As more megapixel camera phones enter the market and image quality improves, the expectation is that significantly more consumers will want to print the photos taken with these improved products."

According to the release, there is a "strong correlation between the number of images taken by a camera phone and the likelihood they will be printed, with those who print taking nearly double the number of images a month."

Fuji has an ulteriour motive to commissioning this report as it also announced a new Cingular Wireless service that will enable Cingular customers to download an application and send postcards via snail mail or make prints at particpating stores that of course use Fuji equipment and paper...
