Television Coming to Cell Phones

With the conlusion of CTIA, the San Jose Mercury News writes about targeting mobile video at the young adult generation, because they "are more amenable to the idea of watching television on small screens."

Creative Strategies analyst Tim Bajarin said, "They've grown up with Nintendo GameBoys and are used to that, whereas for Baby Boomers, it just won't cut it."

The big question facing the industry is whether consumers will actually pay for mobile video services. Neil Strother at NPD Group said, "As these new video capabilities roll out, the pricing will be figured out by the consumer. Carriers will try to get as much as they can, but they also know they have to make it affordable."

Understanding the usage model will be critical too. "It's basically a way to kill time -- for students with flexible time schedules or while on mass transit,. Most of the consumption will be short," Strother added.
