4GB Flash iPod?

The Wall Street Journal (subscription required) reports that Apple will intoduce a new flash iPod that is "fueling stronger-than-expected demand for NAND flash-memory chips."

The article states that "industry analysts widely expect Apple to launch a flash-based, four-gigabyte iPod this year," which in turn will drive "very strong demand in the flash-memory market."

iSuppli analyst Nam Hyung Kim said that due to Apple's new product demand, "Supply will be much tighter than expected in the second half. Spot buyers will continue to feel a shortage as major NAND suppliers' capacities have been booked by [original equipment manufacturers] for the remainder of the year."

A 4GB flash iPod is an interesting product move from Apple. How will they price it and more importantly, will it have a screen :-) Is it the low-end mini replacement and does this mean the mini line will add more capacity and video capabilities so there is less overlap? With Apple rumors, the possibilities are endless...
