Linksys Launches Wireless VoIP Phones

Top Tech News reports that Linksys has started selling the WIP300 and WIP330 Wi-Fi VoIP handsets. The WIP30 costs about $220 and "features a 1.8-inch color LCD and backlit keypad, along with other standard phone options that include call forwarding, call transfer, and call history."

The WIP330 at $369.99 "features a 2.2-inch color display, three-way conferencing, call hold and resume, caller ID, and the ability to connect to Web-based e-mail."

Lynda Starr at Frost & Sullivan thought "initial sales probably will be to the businessperson who is more than likely already using VoIP at the office."

However, Charles Golvin at Forrester Research believed the "market opportunity for VoIP handsets is extremely limited." He said, "At most, there are five million VoIP subscribers in the U.S. today, and not all have a wireless home network. These consumers can already use a standard cordless phone for mobility in the home."
