Double-dialers swell cellphone ranks

USA TODAY writes about U.S. cellular customers that have more than one handset. According to Complete, "About 16% of wireless customers have two mobile phones — one for personal use and one for business."

Roger Entner at Ovum noted the "practice is helping wireless providers boost subscribers in a largely saturated market." The article state one reason for the trend is companies limiting handset usage for business only.

Enterprise device standardization is also contributing as well as not having to itemize call. In-Stat analyst Allyn Hall said, "Expense reports are expensive to process."

Even if the company allows personal calls, for some here are the reasons for having a separate handset:

  • Separating personal and business lives.
  • Keeping a familiar number.
  • Low-priced plans.
  • Better coverage.
