Going Hands-Free

As more states start to require hands-free cell phone usage while driving, the Los Angeles Times does a comparison of headsets of the wired and wireless variety. Linda Barrabee of Yankee said,"Of all the accessories for cellphones, the ones people most want are headsets and other hands-free devices."

Bluetooth-equipped handsets are becoming more popular, but as the article points out the quality of sound is still not up to par with wired headsets. Charles Golvin at Forrester Research said "Bluetooth is limited in the range of frequencies it can use. So you get less sound fidelity and more chance for interference."

I've gone through a number of wired and wireless headsets and for the most part the sound quality has always been mediocre. However the convenience of the Bluetooth headset is too much to pass up...
